Shot Up North's SUN MOTION - the competitive showcase for stills photographers using stills cameras to make movies in a professional context.


Who it's for....

• Stills Photographers using stills cameras to make movies.
• Accepted areas of photographic practice are advertising, design, editorial or fashion.
• You must be working as a stills photographer, based in the northern regions, from the Midlands to the Scottish Isles.

Submissions:

* Movies should be between 30 seconds to 5 minutes in length.
* They may be commissioned or non-commissioned.
* The movie should be entirely the result of the direction and editing decisions of the photographer.
* Submission is via our Online Form & Payment - movies should be sent on CD/DVD.

Submission dates: 1st July till 30th September 2010
(entry form ceases to be available on 1 Oct)

Selection:

* Our invited curator(s) will select those movies which in their opinion best deserve to be in the showcase.
* One winner will be selected as SUN MOTION movie of the Year.

Presentation:

All selected works will appear in a special Shot Up North online showcase. Successful entries will be shown at the SUN 22 Premier Night in Leeds.(provisionally October)

Entry Procedure & Format

• You may enter as many movies as you like.
• Entry fee £25.00 per movie
• The movie should be the result of the photographer's direction and editing decisions.
• Movie should be shot entirely using the video capability of stills cameras (such as Canon 5D MkII).
• The movies are judged anonymously - therefore NO CREDITS should appear in your film.
• Movies may be in .MOV, .MP4, .AVI (do NOT supply in DVD format)

• Your entry (CD/DVD) should be labeled with your Name & Entry number exactly as it appears on your entry form (entry number and address will be displayed after payment is completed).
• File names must follow the convention as follows:
surname_firstname_01.mov/mp4/avi
surname_firstname_02.mov/mp4/avi etc

• There are no refunds of entry fees. Disks cannot be returned.

Eligibility
By entering the competition you confirm that you are a working professional photographer based within the geographic area described. SUN EXPO Ltd may conduct unannounced visits to your premises and background checks. You agree to comply with all requests for access and information. Any entrant not complying or who are found to be in violation of the rules will be deemed liable for all costs and will be disqualified.
Risk and Insurance
SUN EXPO Ltd and any venue showing the exhibition will not be responsible for any loss or damage to entries or exhibition prints, whether or not caused by negligence. SUN EXPO Ltd strongly advises entrants to ensure that their own insurance covers any eventuality. Whilst SUN EXPO Ltd makes every effort to ensure that SUN AWARDS publications and exhibitions are of the highest standard, we are unable to guarantee the quality of the reproduction.
Copyright
Accepted entries will be reproduced in the Photography SUN Exhibition and used in various publications in connection with these awards, which may include the internet or other electronic media.
No copyright is transferred to SUN EXPO Ltd in respect of any works entered or accepted. Each entrant shall be deemed to warrant that they own the entire copyright in the work or that they have permission from the licensee and/or copyright owner/s for the uses and that all necessary model releases and clearances have been obtained. The entrant undertakes to indemnify SUN EXPO Ltd in respect of any breach of the same.
General
SUN EXPO Ltd reserves the right to use its own discretion throughout which may include: disqualifying any entry not complying with the rules; amalgamating categories if they are under-subscribed; changing or removing the category headings when the selected images are published. There will be no appeal against the decision of the judges and correspondence cannot be entered into regarding the judging.
