Shot Up North's showcase for new professional photographers

Who it's for....

* Photographers at the beginning of their photographic careers, who consider that their work isn't ready for the SUN Awards themselves, or who might still be in the process of building up their commissions or portfolio.
* You can be an assistant, photographer, freelance or running your own studio.
* You must be based in the northern regions, from the Midlands to the Scottish Isles.
* Accepted areas of photographic practice are advertising, design, editorial or fashion.
* You must not have entered the SUN Awards previously; nor can you enter both the SUN Awards and SUN Rise in the same year.
* You must be working as a photographer/assistant and cannot be in full time education.

Submissions:

* Up to 5 single images can be submitted for a flat fee of £25.00 per photographer. (Only one entry per person)
* Images may be commissioned or non-commissioned.
* Submission is via our Online Form & Payment - images should be sent on CD or via Email.

Submission dates: 1st July till 17th September 2010

Selection:

* Our invited curator(s) will select those images which in their opinion best deserve to be in the showcase.
* Also one winner will be selected as SUNRISE Photographer of the Year.

Presentation:

All selected works will appear in a special Shot Up North online showcase. Successful entries will be announced at the Leeds private view of SUN22 (provisionally October)

Entry Procedure & Format

• A single entry of up to 5 images per photographer is allowed.
(Do NOT submit more than one entry!!)
• Entry fee £25.00
• All elements of the work submitted must have be originated by the entrant and the greater significant amount of the final image must have been photographically generated.
• All images should be individual - no series.
• The images are judged purely as photographs and not as an adjunct to design and art direction, therefore no copy should appear on your photograph.
• The entrants name must not appear anywhere in the image.
• Your entry (Email, FTP, CD) should include your Name & Entry number exactly as it appears on your entry form (entry number and address will be displayed after payment is completed).
• Entries should be submitted as sRGB, JPEG files at Best Quality (12) at a size of 1000 pixels along the longest side.

• File names must follow the convention as follows:
surname_firstname_01.jpg
surname_firstname_02.jpg etc

• There are no refunds of entry fees.

ELIGIBILITY
By submitting an entry to this showcase you confirm that you are actively pursuing a professional photographic career based within the geographic area described. SUN EXPO Ltd may conduct unannounced visits to your premises and background checks. You agree to comply with all requests for access and information. Any entrant not complying or who are found to be in violation of the rules will be deemed liable for all costs and will be disqualified.
COPYRIGHT
Selected entries will be reproduced in the SUN RISE showcase and used in various publications, printed or digital, in connection with Shot Up North and its promotional activities.
No copyright is transferred to SUN EXPO Ltd in respect of any works entered or accepted. Each entrant shall be deemed to warrant that they own the entire copyright in the work or that they have permission from the licensee and/or copyright owner/s for the uses and that all necessary model releases and clearances have been obtained. The entrant undertakes to indemnify SUN EXPO Ltd in respect of any breach of the same.
GENERAL
SUN EXPO Ltd reserves the right to use its own discretion throughout which may include disqualifying any entry not complying with the rules. There will be no appeal against the decision of the selectors and correspondence cannot be entered into regarding the selection.
